FO3 seemed to run fine without it but I did it anyway. Results were immediate and already noticeable. I tried this before downloading any script extender or fix. I moved saves once for FONV after having installed it on a seperate HD not my primary and went back to load it up but even though nothing physically had changed install wise the game would not run the save states that were left in the folder so do so at your own risk!įO3 will not longer stutter. I would suggest after each game session you move the saves - be careful because NVSE and FOSE will have problems should you install the main game folder to any hard drive other than your primary. Even 700-900 saves is too much to allow in the folder. Until I found out what that 255th slot is used for I had many troubles but the moving or deleting of saves can save many headaches. This ONLY fixes part of what is wrong though and you still need the stutter remover for both FO3 and FONV. The less saves present in the save folder (if using a script extender) the more CTD's and stuttering you have. I had around 8200 saves my last game and tested this out. The 255th slot is for the Save files so it essentially acts like a mod somewhat and can cause stuttering if you let more than thousands of saves accumulate. I also suggest no matter what game you play if you let saves accumulate you NEED to move them (IF possible) either delete them or remove them and move them to a different hard drive. Similar to FONV even though FO3 can run 254 mods it does take a toll with stuttering and CTD's. There are also seems to be a mod limit as well although not similar to FONV this is a limitation in the Gamebaryo engine as well. The more mods you have the more stuttering. There is a mod for both Fallout 3 and New Vegas which will fix the issue on most systems, you can find the mods linked in the YouTube guides below.įallout 3 Stutter Remover: (Download and install the FSR_4-1-36 file and follow this GUIDE, it is for new vegas but the ini edits are the same)įallout NV Stutter Remover: (Download and install the MAIN file and follow the same GUIDE) Simply capping the framerate doesn't solve the issue entirely though, the game will still suffer from the 64Hz Bug alas causing stutters. All Gamebyro (and Creation Engine) games should always be capped to 60FPS max, to prevent physic and general game instability and incorrect execution of scripts. Change its value from 0 to 60 so it looks like this iFPSClamp=60įO3 will not longer stutter. Open "FALLOUT.INI" with notepad or notepad Ĥ. For me this is D:\Users\mcgeehe\Documents\My Games\Fallout3Ģ. Navigate to your FO3 or NV folder that is found in "My Documents". This will eliminate stuttering that occurs when panning the camera horizontally, or when strafing.ġ. If you wish to play with a variable frame rate instead of a locked 60 or 30, then you will need to leave iFPSClamp set to 0. You can also set iFPSClamp to 30 if you plan to cap your frame rate to 30fps with something like RTSS or DXTORY. Mcgeehe: // Your PC will need to be able to maintain 60fps or the entire engine slows down when doing this.
